an actual poem

(for my friend, Chuka)

some one once told me
every man is not a poem
but some men are poems in and of themselves
eucalyptus and lilies
harken their coming
slight kisses
betray their tenderness
sometimes a hug bears witness
to dense redwoods and cypress
growing by the pacific
boulders manifest their strength
whole pomegranates

their delicacy
what to do with a poem on two legs
whose touch brings quivers
a su alma un hombre sensible y
extraordinario en nuestro mundo
dame un momento solamente un momento
in his presence
and i am blessed a woman in the realm of a poem
on two legs
