Juan, Willie and The Boys

In the park we high-kicked
before throwing the ball.
We wanted to be Marichal
more than Mays - unless
we were running around
the bases. Then we wanted
our caps to fly off giving us
the speed the big boys
didn't have. Reaching home
we were safe.
The backs of our arms
covered with dust. Our good
shirts torn but everyone laughing -
fall down silly.
